Writing again
I am sorry we have not written a blog in a long time. We have had a few technical difficulties and also been very busy as well as I have spent a lot of time out of the country. Please check as we are going to be putting up more blogs and also posting more pictures on the website.
Holy Week
Hi everyone. Sorry I have not written on this blog for some time, but we have been unable to get internet services out here where we live! We recently got an air card that is supposed to give us pretty fast access, but it is actually slower than dial-up! (For those of us who remember those days.) This week has been very busy for us, as here in Honduras this is known as Holy Week. Everything closes at noon on Wednesday and does not open again until Monday. Friday is the biggest holiday of the year here and also the most dangerous. We stayed here close to the property this week and worked on various projects. We had a really good service Wednesday night and today as well. The kids enjoyed the week out of school, but they have to get back to work tomorrow. We cooked and packaged over three hundred bags of bread this week, which we were able to distribute to the poor children and families in Veracruz, the little village near where we have the Home. We are staying busy with different projects and we are hoping to get twenty five more laying hens soon, as the twenty five we have now cannot keep up with the growing demand of the home. We now have twenty one children and continue to grow. We are hoping to update more in the future. Sorry we cannot put up pictures now, but hopefully this year we will get a better internet service. Lord bless.
Good News!
Hi everyone! We are sorry that it has been so long since the last post; but there is a good excuse! We have finally moved the orphanage into the new building! Thanks to everyone for their prayers, time, and donations. I will try to post about the container arriving and all the other things that have been happening down there soon. Here are a few pics of the new building...
Visitor at the building site!
Today we were moving some things and found an unwanted visitor just outside. We brought it back to Santa Rosa but ended up doing away with it since they are so poisonous.
Project finally done!
This week we were able to finally complete the septic project. Everyone lent a hand and we were able to get it done. We put in the drain lines for the bathrooms on the upper level and the shower lines on the lower level. Please keep praying that we will be able to finish this building in the next few weeks as it will take a miracle to complete.
Sorting Day
Loading the container
Thank you to all of you that helped with sorting and packing for the container. It left today and should be arriving at the port in Honduras on November 3rd. If there are no complications in customs it will arrive at the orphanage sometime that week. We were able to get a lot of the needed items on the container and hope to get the building finished soon. Here are some pictures of us loading. Sorry they are not the best, but we spent a lot of time loading after dark and even into the early morning. We will try to post more pictures as we progress on the building.
Thank you!
Birthdays
October brought a whole round of birthdays for several of the kids and my daughter Abigail. She was very excited about her third birthday, especially the Pooh cake her mother made her! She was very happy about her new dolls and dress from Grandma and Grandad and all of the trappings that went with the party! Our favorite inventor, Juan Carlos, celebrated his twelfth birthday and Junior turned fourteen. Some of the boys are still a little small for their age, especially ones like Juan Carlos, who looks nine or ten! Of course all parties are accompanied by piñatas, which are nice names for mad fights over candy!
Planting Day
After driving around the large city of San Pedro for several hours, we finally found some good trees that we could plant around the building. On Thursday we had a work day at the property with all of the kids. It was quite a chore hauling the heavy trees by hand and planting them, but after working the whole day we finally got them planted. The boys all helped so the work progressed much faster. The building looks really good with a little green around it!
Welcome!
